Chimps, Climbers, Copters & Crooners Light Up the Big Screen at OmniDome Theater

Explore larger-than-life adventure during OmniDome Theater’s Fifth Annual Big Screen Film Fest each weekend in February and experience everything from grinning primates and adrenaline junkies to whirly birds and guitar pickin’!

Each weekend of the month, OmniDome Theater audiences can catch a different giant-screen film, and in doing so, help determine which films are brought into the theater for longer runs.

The first weekend, February 6 – 8, the Big Screen Film Fest will feature Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees. The film offer viewers the opportunity to journey deep into Gombe and across four decades of research to experience the world of chimpanzees as you’ve never seen before. Rare footage of chimps at close range playing with one another and their baboon neighbors, grooming, hunting, communicating and using tools to find food.

The next weekend, February 13-15, Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk takes the screen. Take a look at the thrill-seeking world of skydiving and base jumping – parachuting from a building, bridge or cliff. Breathtaking views of skydiving over the Florida Keys, the Mojave Desert and the magnificent Fjord of Norway accompany the exploration of the psychological and physiological forces behind risk-taking and the physics involved in these daredevil activities.

Stay in the air February 20-22 for Straight Up! Helicopters in Action. Fly along with skilled helicopter crews as they carry out sea and mountain rescues, apprehend drug smugglers, repair high voltage power lines, save endangered animals, deliver humanitarian aid and undertake a reconnaissance mission

Finally, celebrate the heritage of country music and its role in reflecting the history of America in the 20th century with Our Country, February 27-29. From the immigrant migration “melting pot” and the Great Depression, or more recent events such as the social upheaval of 1960s and the unifying impact of Sept. 11. Includes performances by Alabama, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Alan Jackson and more.

OmniDome Theater is located at 2100 NE 52nd Street. Big Screen Film Fest show times are Friday, 6 and 8 p.m.; Saturday, 1:10, 3:30, 6 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon, 2:20, 4:40 and 6 p.m. Top Speed and Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West are also showing at OmniDome Theater.
